Why I am a bad mum

Why I am a BAD MUM?

1. While feeding Ellen I managed to splat a grape-sized blob of "Peach & Banana pure" on her left eye. (Luckily she managed to shut her eye and just sat there wondering why she'd gone blind on one eye!) BAD MUM!
2. I was holding Ellen under her arms and was knealing down to reach into a cupboard to grab myself a Diet Coke, when I felt myself losing my balance and as controlled as a fall can be, I fell backwards like a Pilates roll with Ellen hanging vertically still in the same position as before I started to fall. So there I was, on my back, holding this baby straight up in the air... BAD MUM!
3. I propped her up as usual on the sofa with pillows all around her, looked away for 1 second to grab my cup of tea, and in the corner of my eye I see the back of her head dangerously near the edge of the sofa...I manage to catch the back of her sweater and pulled her back up before she swan-dived off the sofa head first...BAD MUM!
4. Because I drink red wine 3 nights a week?? BAD MUM? Alcoholic mum?
5. Because we jokingly talked about putting the baby monitor on in her room and bringing the parent unit of the baby monitor to the pub next door, haha, to see if we could still hear her?! Now, even thinking that is BAD!!! (Of course, for any of you who think we would, no chance!!! I simply smuggle her into the pub in my gym-bag and she lies under the table while we drink ourselves stupid!!! ;) )

Why I am a GOOD MUM?
1. Because I manage to get up at any time of the day or night to look after my Angel
2. Because I am healthy, fit and hysterically funny! Of course!
3. I can sing "One man went to mow" really really fast
4. Because I can change nappies in the dark
5. Because I can do almost anything with only one hand nowadays
6. Because I love her to bits and would do anything for her

Ebay

We constantly threat our older doggie Dak, Dakster Wakster, Waksterman, Wax, Dackie-Do, McWakster, Quackie... to sell him on Ebay when he howls for food or does something naughty. So today, we put up a "preview" listing that can go live anytime...

The weekend

Its Sunday and the sun is shining. We've been out in the garden all day, fixing fences, picking up sticks and rubbish from that lawn and generally just lazying around in the sunshine. It feels like Spring. 11 degrees and probably warmer in the sun. Ahhhh.

Have booked my trip home to Skelleftea now. On the 2nd of March I travel to see my sister (with family) and on the 4th I carry on upwards to see mum & dad. Can't wait.
Just hope the flights are ok with the little one.

Talking about little ones, she's just woken up. Gotta go. Will update more later on.

Cm7#maj9sus14

Just had to post some photos of the next Jimmy Hendrix. Ellen's first guitar-lesson!

She went for a super-tricky one-fingered chord: Cm7#maj9sus14

Stormy Days and Nights

Ok. So now I know what its really all about. Sleep depravation in its finest. Have had 2 hours sleep and feel like a ghost. Well I think now I am actually waking up slightly, surfing on adrenaline or something, whatever keeps a person going...

Ellen has decided its great fun to wake up every 30 minutes during the night to wimper and cry and as soon as we show our head in the door, she smiles at you and thinks its hilarous that she is awake. God knows why. Am going to try my best to keep her awake today, although I am struggling to keep myself awake.

Anyway, I cracked this morning after 4 hours of solid crying from her end. There is only so much you can take. And when you have tried everything, feeding, soothing, carrying, bopping round, singing, your body says: "NO! That's it. I am not moving anymore. I just want to lie down." Then that's where the trouble begins. Baby crying, my body and mind not operating anymore. Spoke to Steve on the phone and he brought me back down to planet earth. At the end of the day, its only crying...and its not going to go on forever, but when you're in it, it really feels like the world is about the go under.

So I am not the most wide-eyed person today.

After having spent yesterday looking after Ellen and working in between her naps, I was dead in the evening, and we went to bed at 10pm. Not sure I can cope with that today. Will see how it goes. At least the sun is shining today.

Now to the storm damage! The fun part!
My dear car was ever so lucky. One of our big fir trees decided to fall down and landed about 10 cm from the bonnet of my car. Thank the lord it wasn't one of the bigger trees or my car would have been a write-off. So here's a picture:

Then there was some damage to our carport. One of the panels flew off and landed on my bathroom fitters van. Luckily no damage to his van, phew.

He had apparently driven off last night with a strange clunking and banging noise coming from underneath the car, thinking that the exhaust was about the fall off. So this morning he drove into his local garage, and asked a mecanic to check it out. The mechanic took one look under the car and said: "I think this might be the problem", and pulled out half a tree! (not the tree in the picture below...)

A laughter that makes me cry

My little sunbeam is now laughing. And it's the most wonderful sound. Two days ago, in the bath, she started and what a laugh. It was like a little chuckle and oh how it melted my motherly heart. I honestly didn't know whether to laugh with her or to shed a tear. I think I did both.
So now she chuckles away when I blow raspberries on her neck or tickle her belly. Its so amazing.

So over and out for now.

Sunday

Oh nooo, now X factor has finished - Cringe factor is on tele. Celebrity Big Brother.
Jade's mum just makes me want to hide under the sofa. What on earth? And her "medication", I reckon its booze, man! Poor old Ken who had to leave.

Aaaanyway, god only knows how I got into that show...

Ellen's being a little angel at the mo. The last few days and nights she's been super. Like clockwork with her sleeping hours etc. Makes it nicer when we have our evenings back again. To know that at 8pm we can go downstairs and be "adults" again. Not having to run up and down to be "mummy and daddy" all the time.

Steve and Bob's gone to the pub for the quiz, with mad Harry the Hits bloody quizmaster. Hopefully Wednesday its Yummy Mummys turn again. I am just here drinking red wine (well it IS Sunday!) and eating Price-Sausages (leftover from Christmas).

Monday tomorrow. What does this week hold? Ehm...dentist on Thursday, whooopie scoopie.
Having a major sort out of the house. Going through drawers, cupboards etc and organising everything. Throwing loads of junk away and every day the house looks neater and tidier. Getting another cupboard put in, in the kitchen. The guy doing the bathrooms for us will fit it for me, which gives me more storage in the kitchen, which is great. Too many pots and pans.

Going to bed now. Greys anatomy has finished and I am getting ready for another 6am start tomorrow morning. Steve did the early shift this morning, but I still woke up at 8am which isn't exactly a lie-in.

God my life is so exciting isn't it. Whoever is reading this posting this evening, must be asleep by now. Sleep tight!

New bathroom

Before Pictures:

Yuk...

Oh nooo...

Don't wanna take a bath there...

and AFTER pictures:

Ooooohh

Ahhhh...

Oh yes!

Went to get some lovely Sanctuary stuff to fill the bathroom with. Soaps and bubbles and bits and bobs. Think I might sneak a bath tonight, while Steve's at football.
Just need to get some towels, mirrors etc in there. Its taken about 3 weeks to get it finished. Finally that hideous bath is gone, and hopefully the horrid spiders that used to lurk in there...

Over and out.

A walk in the park

Its midday and I've just got back from a lovely walk in the sunshine. Its 11 degrees outside, crisp air and blue skies. Had to get to the park so I loaded the pram and the dogs in the back of my car, dressed Ellen in her fluffy white jacket and off we all went. Oh yes, I forgot, I also put some custard cream biscuits in the storage under the pram (for an emergency with the dogs, if they decided they wanted to run away and I couldn't call them back or something. Biscuits always does the trick to get their attention).
The dogs were great. Its the first time I've gone for a walk with the two dogs and the pram but Dak & Indy walked like little troopers and I got a few amazed and impressed looks from some dog owners. I felt like the proudest mum in the world, and that's just for the dogs! Ellen was sitting up in the pram, with her little Pippi Langstrump hat, watching the world go by.

So today I am organizing the annexe. Gotta sort that mess out. Cleared out the office yesterday and it looks so much nicer. Just need to get some curtains. Might steal the ones from upstairs for now.

That's all from me for the moment.

A new year

Its 1pm , Monday the 1st of January, 2007.
No hangover, lots of energy after a good night's sleep and the sun is shining outside. What a lovely start to the new year.

Got ready for the party and slipped into my footballers wives dress!

Oh yes, you can call me Jungle Jane. Asked Steve to take a photo of me, just because I wasn't wearing tracksuit bottoms and pukey t-shits for once! Just realized I am almost as tall as the Christmas tree. Blimey.

The party was excellent. Got to Sarah's about 8.30pm. Lovely crowd of people. Had a great evening, and little Ellen decided to go to sleep about 10pm, which gave us free hands for midnight!
Only had 2 glasses of wine, which is all I need nowadays anyway...and then stayed on a mix of sloer, ribena and some kind of elderberry drink. Nice.

Spoke Spanish with Barney's brother, Swedish with Barney and gibberish with the rest of the peeps. The three little girls, (Rebecca 7, Charlotte 4 & Holly 4) were lovely and added a few decibels to the party. They kept stealing icecubes from the bathtub (that was full of beers) and putting the icecubes into the lads pockets. Barney got a few in his slippers as well and I got one on my foot. Steve kept threatening to throw the girls in the bathtub, which was a game they loved. Then it was kung-fu-fighting with pillows...Steve seemed to have a great time, whereas I was thinking "my god, Ellen's going to be that age one day...no more peace and quiet!".

Steve, Rebecca & Charlotte.
Lovely girls and lovely guy!

Dumb and Dumber

Sarah dancing away

And away some more...!

And Barney watches his lovely fiancee's moves!

Barbac does a robot impression. Clare looks ever so impressed.

Clare & Sarah rockin away.

And now Barbac does the In The Ghetto rap...

Winter Agility

Now, what do you do on a grey, grizzly Sunday when everyone's bored, including the dogs?

You set up a agility course in the garden, well maybe not a whole course, one jump!

We armed ourselves with bits of cheese and off we went.

Dak went first

He raced towards the jump and Whooooosh, he cleared it in one!

Well done!

One piece of cheese to you!

Indy went second

Steve showed him how to jump,
but Indy decided he didn't want to go over.

His big, fat bottom slammed into the jump.

Crash.

No cheese for you...

Dak's second attempt

Ah, Steve swoshes over, but what...?

Dak goes round it...why bother with all this jumping?

Indy's second attempt

Oh yes!!!

He's over!

But nooo, the jump crashes but not to worry.

Cheese all round!

That's better!

Well done to you!

And here's the winner!

Dakota Newman, from Halesowen!

Christmas & New Year update

Phew.

A moment to update you all on my Christmas goings-on this year. My sister was supposed to come over on the 21st, but due to her little doggie breaking its leg the week before, she couldn't come over as she had to look after the poor little mite. My mum however touched down at Heathrow, about 8 hours too late, due to the fog that covered most of the UK that day. Her original flight got cancelled and I thought, here we go, no sister - no mum. But luckily she made it and on the day after (dan fore dan) we started the cooking of our Swedish Christmas dishes. Without my mum I think it would have been an absolute disaster. I could just about have managed the Christmas Ham that I had bought from IKEA (ready-made, ready to eat)

Sooo, Christmas eve arrived, and so did our guests. The table was beautifully set (see previous pictures) and everyone got Glogg and gingerbread biscuits as they arrived.
Peter & Jill, Ross & Lorraine + Lola, Pierce & Louise, Barbac & Clare, Sarah & Barney - it really was a nice mix of people and dinner was a success (well in my eyes anyway).
Sloe Gin all round and lots of pressies afterwards.
Some of my weirdest presents this year must have been the washing-up brush from my mum (don't get me wrong, very useful, but just very...hmm) and the book about Serial Killers from Sarah! Haha, excellent. It really does fascinate me and I started reading the book last night... although I had to put it down after I had read the chapters about animal mutilation and keeping crocodiles as a means for getting rid of body parts...and got on to the chapter called Bath tubs...no I left it at that...I will have to carry on reading in the mornings now. When its nice and light outside...

The rest of the days with my mum were spent either shopping, eating good food, cleaning and fixing things around the house and the last day she was here she was so keen on having a bonfire, so we lit one in the garden and burnt everything we could find that cluttered the place.

So today is New Year's Eve. For once I actually feel incredibly positive about the new year shift. I feel so many changes has taken place in my life the last year and I feel things are on the right track. Have met so many lovely people this year and feel really happy with where I am etc.

We're going to a houseparty, no I guess its more of a flat-party, if that makes a difference.
Sarah & Barney are throwing a party at theirs and about 12 people are going to join them. Should be a good mix of people again. Ellen is coming with us so she can snooze in the spare room. I went shopping yesterday without Ellen, which was a strange experience (nowhere to hang my bags, could go into any shop I felt like without worrying about the pram being too bulky, noone grotting in the changing rooms etc) The sales were on and funnily enough there weren't that many people. So I was zooming round Debenhams having a great time. Found myself a new years dress - with leopard print... Holy moses... but it sound worse than it is. Its a strapless number with a tie-thing under the bust and then it just floats out below the knee. So nooo, its not a footballers wife tight slut-dress. Looking forward to dressing up and will bring my little digital camera to document the evening.

Sooo. That's it for now. Need to get some brekkie down me now as its 10 o'clock and I've been up since 7.

Good day to you!

Christmas around the corner

How cute am I today?!

Oh, about 10 out of 10 I reckon!

Ellen's first Christmas and she is sooo excited that she decided to sleep for an extra hour today, still asleep so that gives me a chance to update this little blog.

Bathroom is looking better now, just a toilet and sink to go in and then its done. The tiles are gorgeous and the room looks 10 times bigger. Will post some pix when its done.

Was supposed to do the quiz as the Yummy Mummys again tonight, but Lisa's got super-flu so me and Steve are going to head over there instead, as the Yummy Parents...?! Hmmm.
Got babysitter anyway so we need to make the most of it. Can't wait to have a pint with Steve again!

The house has been decorated with a lovely tree, star-lamps in the windows and some little lanterns hanging here and there. Outside Steve has managed to get some great blue icicle lights up, well done to him. Looks great.

Christmas eve we're having loads of peeps round - my mum, Steves mum & dad, Pierce & Louise, Ross & Laine, Sarah & Barney and Barbac & Clare (possibly?!) Can't wait.
Me and my mum are making a Swedish "julbord" with ham, meatballs, sausages, beetroot salad, "ris a'la Malta" and of course gingerbread and lussekatter. I am gutted my sister couldn't make it over this Christmas as that would have made it the ultimate happy Christmas. Instead me and my mum will have to make it as special as we can.

Gotta go.

The world's cutest baby!

Is meeee!!!

Hubba Hubba

And this is Ellen's absolute favourite by the way: Hubba Hubba, from Hoobland...

The very first taster

So here we are, our "little one" is trying food for the first time. Well...food...I don't know if we can call it food...it looks more like wallpaper glue.
Last night she got to try a teaspoon of baby rice. First she looked suspicious, then she spat it out, then grabbed hold of the spoon and shoved the whole thing in her mouth and it was gone!

Today she had creamed porridge for breakfast, about 2 teaspoons! Whoohooo!
And for lunch she tried a bit of banana and rice pure, which was scary to start with, but then she liked it! So much that she wanted it as a leave-in hair treatment and I am still picking out little bits of banana-slime now...

The bathroom is taking shape. Tiles are soon going up on the walls and its going to look stunning. The bath is plumbed in and if it wasn't for the builder's tools being piled high in there, I would jump in for a first bubblebath.

My sister's dog has broken her front leg, the poor little mite. Me and my doggies are thinking of little Disney. Especially Dakster-Wakster with his metal leg...

Off to play with Ellen in her playgym. Well...I am not going in it...she's there and I just wiggle things in front of her. Or I guess I could squeeze in there...!!!

Yummy mummys

Sad quizteam name, eh!? Haha, but not so sad "mummys" as we are going out tonight! Sooo lovely to have an evening or two to look forward to, without baby drewl or gurgling. A few glasses of vino and off we go with the quiz.
Last time I brought the quiz sheet home to Steve to ask him the questions afterwards...I read out the question, "what was the name of the race horse that died last week". He knew the answer (desert orchid) straight away, and I said "by this stage I was too drunk to actually remember the bloody horses name"...Steve pointed out that was question number 1 ...oh dear...
So maybe less drinking and more concentrating tonight would be my advise to myself.

What else. Little Ellen had her 2nd injection on Monday. She smiled her way through it...until we got home. Then she became evil-baby! Veeery unhappy and very noisy pretty much all day. But I'll give her a break as she's been so lovely today. Although now when she's discovered she has a voice she keeps babbling all sorts of gobbledy-gook and today she's been trying out her "ultrasound" register. Imagine the highest pitched sound you possibly can, then imagine that on helium - That's her! Peeeeeeepppp, Ppeeeeeeppp. Screeeetch

Time to make some dinner as Steve has just appeared. Then off to the shower and slap the make-up on. We don't wanna look like the Scummy Mummys now, do we?!

Ta'ta!

Love the Christmas shopping!

Oooooooh! It's the 1st of December! Christmas is coming!
Outside there's 1m of fresh, glistening snow - the trees makes the garden look like Narnia and sleighbells are ringing at the end of the road... or maybe not...its about 16 degrees warm, raining, nooo, actually throwing it down. Not a snowflake in sight apart from on my shoulders...dandruff I am guessing.

BUT! There's always JULKLAPPAR - Christmas-Claps!!! Hehe
Love to get the little pressies all wrapped up and put in a big pile on the floor somewhere. Even better when the tree's in and all the lovely presents are under the tree looking soooo homely and inviting. Some people are simply impossible to find things for, others...read my sister...is the easiest person in the world to buy for. I think its because whatever she wants, I want and vice versa. So oh yes, found some more little bits and bobs for her today. You are soo lucky!

Drinking Raspberry and Caramel tea. Haven't quite made up my mind about that one yet...
Do I like it? Not sure. It's one of those where its so horrible its nice or the otherway round.

Ellen is being a little Angel at the moment (probably cursing it now) but she was smiling all of yesterday, and fell asleep in her room at 8pm after her bath. Then slept aaaall evening and all night (apart from eating at 3am as usual) and woke up at 6am. Not bad. I am quite enjoying being up before the sun rises, just because of that - you get to see the sun rise! Its gorgeous, and always different.

Me and Ellen have a new favourite tv-programme. "The Hoobs".
They come from Hoobland (of course!) and everything is Hoobylicious and Hoobtastic where they are. Worth checking out their little place on the web HOOBS
I think I am a bit like "Groove" to be honest. He's got it sorted. Loooove the Hoobmobile.
So me and my "Squigglytiddlepeep" are now watching every episode.
Its quite funny how "into" a children's programme you can get. Me and Steve sat mesmerised this morning watching Roma explain to Tula what a trampolin was...and the Motorettes going "how how how how how" etc.
Then you suddenly snap out of it and realise you're back in the world of adults...
